In the depths of the Covid-19 pandemic, after New Yorkers had spent months inside, the city's Open Streets program was a breath of socially-distanced fresh air. In later months, as car traffic grew and city resources fell, volunteer groups emerged to save these car-free spaces that had become beloved neighborhood fixtures. As the Loisaida Open Streets Community Coalition grew, it needed a brand that would help unify its efforts to create new public space in the heart of the East Village.

Such a neighborhood, with decades of layers of visual culture, is ripe territory for visual inspiration. A palette of bright primary colors is inspired by street art and stencils, and hand-painted signage influences typography choices in a package that might be new to the neighborhood, but feels instantly at home.
